Sam Richards is primarily a musician (pianist and improviser) and composer who teaches part-time at Plymouth University. He has published several books on music, including the brilliant The Enraged Musician (2013) and Sonic Harvest (1992) and another on John Cage. Sam is an experimentalist in music who often works with groups of improvising musicians whereas his poetry is more direct, satirical and hard-hitting. He has also been an archiver of folk music and of singers' groups. On this occasion he will be reading his poetry, accompanied by Lona Kozik on keyboards and percussion.

Roger Phillips has been a regular reader at the Language Club and someone who has also collaborated with musicians, for example on the CD release Distant (2009: with John Donaldson and others). His poetry is primarily generated from news items but has an edgy, surrealist-inspired spirit which works brilliantly in performance.

Further details can be obtained by consulting the Plymouth Language Club on Facebook and the Plymouth Arts Centre online programme. Language Club events planned for the remainder of 2014 include readings from the poets David Caddy (Dorset) and Phil Terry (Essex).
